Demonstrate your opposition to assisted suicide

Thanks to each and every one of you for your presence and support at our demonstration on March 5. It was heartening indeed to see the outpouring of support for those at risk for assisted suicide.

Proponents invited media to the downtown library where a woman with ovarian cancer signed that she wants a lethal drug overdose. Just imagine the ‘market for assisted suicide’ they are creating by exploiting the fears of ill people -- and all those at risk watching that and thinking: "I'm a burden, and I’m afraid of dying uncomfortably, maybe I, too, should sign up." But having these ill people see just how many people care for them, how many truly compassionate advocates they have in all of us was very, very important.

The news is beginning to filter in about which hospitals and nursing homes will be allowing assisted suicide in their institutions. We’ll update the site in the near future to let you know what other demonstrations might be taking place in the weeks and months to come. In the meantime, call or write a letter to your health care provider, doctor, hospital, or a nursing home in your area inquiring if they will participate in assisted suicide by prescribing, dispensing, or allowing the administration of lethal drugs to vulnerable patients. These places and people need to know that you and your family want a health care provider you can trust with your life.

Thanks again - your compassionate action will make all the difference in the world. Who knows, it may well save lives.
